About Us
At Manzanita Community School (MCS) we develop informed, caring citizens through an education grounded in trust, supportive relationships and strong family involvment. We are an intimate TK-5 public elementary school serving 400 Oakland students in the Meadow Brook/Reservoir Hills neighborhood.
Mission
At Manzanita Community School (MCS) we create a school community based on the core values of:
-
Mutual respect
- Kindness
- Responsibility
- Commitment to being a lifelong learner.
We will support all students to reach their fullest potential in a safe, engaging, and collaborative environment.
Vision
At MCS, our vision is that MCS students will acquire, demonstrate and value knowledge and become lifelong learners in their ongoing journey to be successful, confident and respectful members of the world.
Values
- Be Kind
- Be Committed
- Be a Learner and a Teacher
- Be Responsible
- Be Respectful
These five core values lay the foundation for our school, our community, and the teaching that happens here. Because of these five core values, children develop positive relationships with peers and staff and gain a sense of community and belonging.
We educate the whole child through diverse programs like Garden, Destiny Arts and EBAYC after-school enrichment. Our classrooms use a balanced literacy model for literacy instruction and we offer daily mindfulness practice.
We are a Responsive Classroom school.
